Yes — a Komodo cruise under USD 1,000 per person is realistic in 2027. Naturalia cabins start at USD 400 per person for a 3D2N shared departure including meals, guide, snorkelling gear and transfers. Park entry adds IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor; flights and drinks sit outside the fare.
The honest answer to a budget question
Most Komodo pages answer “how much” with a range so wide it is useless. Here is a specific answer for 2027, with the figures published rather than implied.
A cruise cabin on Naturalia costs between USD 400 and USD 800 per person depending on which cabin you take. Everything below the USD 680 line keeps a two-person booking under USD 1,400 for the whole trip; a single guest can complete the entire cruise portion for USD 400.
| Cabin | Deck | Max pax | Notable feature | Rate / person |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sandal | Main | 3 | Private balcony, bathtub, sea view | USD 800 |
| Azure | Upper | 2 | Private balcony, bathtub, sea view | USD 710 |
| Coral | Upper | 3 | Shared balcony, sea view | USD 680 |
| Aurea | Main | 4 | Private balcony with jacuzzi | USD 470 |
| Breeze | Upper | 4 | Shared balcony, sea view | USD 430 |
| Tide | Lower | 4 | Porthole view, two bathrooms | USD 430 |
| Lagoon 1 | Lower | 2 | Porthole view | USD 400 |
| Lagoon 2 | Lower | 2 | Porthole view | USD 400 |
Eight cabins, 24 berths. Rates are per person on a shared (open-trip) departure and exclude national park fees.
Now the additions. These are the same for every operator in Labuan Bajo, and any budget that ignores them will be wrong by 15 to 30 per cent.
| Component | Foreign visitor | Indonesian visitor |
|---|---|---|
| Park entrance, per person per visit (PP 36/2024) | IDR 250,000 flat | IDR 50,000 weekday / IDR 75,000 weekend and public holiday |
| Trekking, wildlife observation, snorkelling | Included in the entrance tariff | Not itemised separately in the official source |
| Ranger and local retribution collected on site | Operator-collected, varies by island and group size | |
| Drone permit | IDR 1,000,000, apply at least 7 days before departure | |
The IDR 650,000 (Komodo/Padar) and IDR 900,000 (Rinca) figures quoted elsewhere are not the PP 36/2024 entrance tariff — they are bundled totals of park PNBP plus regional retribution plus ranger and trail charges. The IDR 3,750,000 “conservation membership” proposed in 2022 was cancelled and does not apply.
Building a realistic total, line by line
Two foreign travellers, 3D2N, entry-level cabin, sailing in a shoulder month:
| Line item | Two guests | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Cabin (Lagoon, USD 400 pp) | USD 800 | Meals, guide, snorkel gear, transfers included |
| National park entrance | IDR 500,000 | IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per visit |
| Ranger & local retribution | Operator-collected, varies | Depends on islands visited and group size |
| Return flight Bali–Labuan Bajo | about IDR 2,400,000–6,000,000 | Promotional to normal economy, both directions |
| Drinks outside the standard list | Your choice | Water, coffee and tea are included |
| Crew gratuity | Your choice | Not built into the fare |
Flight figures are 2026 market ranges, not fixed fares: Bali–Labuan Bajo one-way typically IDR 600,000–900,000 promotional and IDR 900,000–1,500,000 normal economy. Verify at the time of booking.
That structure — a fixed cabin price, a regulated park fee, and a flight that swings by a factor of two — is why the flight, not the boat, is usually the variable that decides whether your trip fits the budget.
Where the market actually sits
| Published reference point | Price as published | What it buys |
|---|---|---|
| Shared boat, 3D2N (Komodo Touristic listing, 2026) | USD 271.57–544.87 per person | Larger sharing vessels, 20–35 guests |
| Shared boat, 4D3N from Labuan Bajo (same source) | from USD 334.39 per person | Same class, extra night |
| Mid-tier phinisi from-price (Phinisi Trip, 2026) | IDR 6,000,000–8,350,000 per person | 30–40 m boats, 7–12 cabins, 20–40 guests |
| Naturalia Cruise cabin rate | USD 400–800 per person | 33.45 m, 8 en-suite cabins, 24 guests maximum |
| Resort-brand luxury cruise (AYANA Lako di’a, 2026) | IDR 29,542,000–56,700,000 | Hotel-operated cruise product |
| Naturalia whole-boat charter | from USD 7,800 per night | Entire 24-berth vessel and crew |
The useful observation: the cheapest published shared-boat rate in this market, USD 271.57 for 3D2N, is on a vessel carrying 32–35 guests. Our USD 400 entry cabin is on a boat capped at 24. You are paying roughly USD 130 more for a third fewer people on board. Whether that is worth it is a judgement, but it should at least be a judgement made with both numbers visible.
Three ways to lower the number without ruining the trip
Take a lower-deck cabin. Lagoon 1 and 2 at USD 400 have portholes instead of a balcony. They are also the quietest cabins when the boat is under way overnight, which is the only night you will actually be sailing while trying to sleep.
Sail in a shoulder month. April–June and September–November are calm, clear and cheaper than the July–August peak. The sea is at its best in exactly the months the crowds are not.
Fill a cabin. Aurea takes four at USD 470 each and includes a private balcony with a jacuzzi — the best value on the boat for a family or two couples travelling together. Tide takes four at USD 430 with two bathrooms.
What we would not recommend as a saving: cutting from three days to two. The 2D1N loses the Padar sunrise, which is the single stop most people came for — we work through what each night adds in how many days you actually need. The day-by-day schedule and pricing sit on the 3D2N itinerary and price page.
The cost of the things nobody quotes
The drone permit is IDR 1,000,000 and needs seven days’ notice — it cannot be arranged on the morning of departure. Alcohol is excluded on essentially every boat in this market. Crew gratuities are discretionary and not built into any published fare. Dive packages are separate from snorkelling, which is included with equipment.
Everything included and excluded is listed in full on the rates and how to book page, which also carries the deposit and cancellation terms.
| Included in the fare | Not included |
|---|---|
| Accommodation on board for the whole trip | Komodo National Park entrance and ranger fees |
| All meals on board | Alcoholic drinks and drinks outside the standard list |
| Mineral water, coffee and tea | Personal snacks |
| English-speaking guide | Crew gratuities |
| Snorkelling equipment and life vests | Flights to and from Labuan Bajo |
| Hotel or airport transfer within mainland Labuan Bajo | Drone permit (request at least 7 days ahead) |
| Premium trip documentation — drone, GoPro and mirrorless | Personal expenses, laundry, dive packages |
Frequently asked questions
Can you do a Komodo cruise for under USD 1,000 per person?
Yes, comfortably. The lower-deck Lagoon cabins on Naturalia are USD 400 per person for a shared departure, and the highest cabin on the boat is USD 800. Adding the IDR 250,000 national park entrance and a return flight from Bali, a foreign visitor can complete a premium 3D2N cruise inside USD 1,000 total in most months.
What does a Komodo cruise under IDR 10 million buy in 2027?
At roughly IDR 6,300,000–10,500,000 for a Naturalia cabin (USD 400–680 at prevailing rates), you get a 24-guest maximum boat, an air-conditioned en-suite cabin, all meals, snorkelling gear, guide and transfers. Park fees, flights, drinks outside the standard list and gratuities sit outside that figure.
What is the cheapest way to see Padar, Pink Beach and Manta Point?
A shared open-trip cabin on a 3D2N sailing. Published market rates for shared boats start around USD 271.57 per person for 3D2N; our entry cabin is USD 400 on a smaller, newer boat. A one-day speedboat tour is cheaper still at about USD 105 published, but it cannot reach Padar at sunrise.
Are national park fees included in the cruise price?
No, and you should be suspicious of any operator who says they are without itemising. The PP 36/2024 entrance tariff is IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per visit and IDR 50,000–75,000 for Indonesian visitors. Ranger and local retribution charges are collected on site and vary by island and group size.
What hidden costs catch people out?
Four things, consistently: national park entry and ranger fees, alcoholic drinks, crew gratuities, and the drone permit at IDR 1,000,000 with a seven-day lead time. Flights to Labuan Bajo are also excluded from every cruise fare in this market.
Is the cheapest cabin actually worse?
Lagoon 1 and Lagoon 2 at USD 400 are lower-deck cabins with portholes rather than sea-view windows or balconies. They are air-conditioned and en-suite like every other cabin, they are the quietest cabins for sleeping under way, and they are closer to the waterline, which some guests prefer in swell.
