This hub exists because most Komodo questions are answered with adjectives. Every answer below carries a number wherever a number exists, and says “not published” where one does not. It was last reviewed on 1 August 2026 for the 2027 season.

Rates and extra costs

How much is a cabin on Naturalia Cruise?

Published per-person cabin rates run from USD 400 for Lagoon 1 and Lagoon 2 to USD 800 for Sandal. Azure is USD 710, Coral USD 680, Aurea USD 470, and Breeze and Tide USD 430 each.

How much is the whole boat for one night?

The published entry point is USD 7,800 per night for 2D1N with 1-8 guests, rising to USD 9,700 for 17-24 guests. Indonesian listings show the same figure as about IDR 123,500,000.

What is the 3D2N charter price?

USD 8,700 for 1-8 guests, USD 9,700 for 9-16 and USD 10,700 for 17-24. At full capacity that is roughly USD 446 per person before park fees.

What is the 4D3N charter price?

USD 11,200 for 1-8 guests, USD 12,100 for 9-16 and USD 13,100 for 17-24 guests.

What is the 5D4N charter price?

USD 12,600 for 1-8 guests, USD 13,600 for 9-16 and USD 14,600 for 17-24 guests.

Are park fees included?

No. Komodo National Park entrance and ranger charges are excluded from every fare and paid separately in IDR.

How much is the park entrance fee?

Under PP No. 36 Tahun 2024 it is IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per visit, and IDR 50,000 on weekdays or IDR 75,000 at weekends and on public holidays for Indonesian visitors.

Why do other sites quote IDR 650,000 or IDR 900,000?

Those are bundled operator totals for Komodo/Padar and Rinca that add regional retribution and ranger charges to the national tariff. They are not the PP 36/2024 entrance figure.

Is there still a IDR 3,750,000 conservation fee?

No. The membership scheme proposed in 2022 was cancelled and has never been in force.

How much is a drone permit?

IDR 1,000,000, and it must be requested at least seven days before departure.

Itinerary and duration

How long is the standard trip?

Three days and two nights is the standard shared departure. Charters run 2D1N, 3D2N, 4D3N and 5D4N.

What does the 3D2N cover?

The operator’s published sequence is Sebayur, Manta Point and Taka Makassar on day one; Padar, Pink Beach and Komodo Island on day two; Kelor and Manjarite on day three.

What does a fourth day add?

Range and buffer. It makes the southern anchorages and Manta Alley possible when weather allows, and it gives you a spare day if wind takes a morning away.

How many hours a day is the boat sailing?

Roughly four to six hours on a full day, in legs of 20 minutes to 1.5 hours, plus one overnight run of three to four hours from Kalong toward Padar.

What is the longest single leg?

Kalong to Padar at about three to four hours. It is run overnight so guests sleep through it.

How long is Labuan Bajo to Kelor?

About one hour, the most consistently documented leg in the park.

Can the itinerary change?

Yes, for safety and tide. The captain may reorder or substitute stops. Headline sites such as Padar, Komodo Island and Manta Point are rarely dropped; the order is what moves.

Is 2D1N worth it?

It works if your time in Flores is very short, but one night gives you a single sunrise and no buffer. Most people who fly a long way regret compressing to it.

What time does the trip end?

Around the middle of the final day, alongside in Labuan Bajo. Book onward flights for late afternoon, not midday.

Can we design our own route?

On a private charter, yes, within tide, distance and park regulation. Shared departures follow the published route.

Cabins and comfort

How many cabins are there?

Eight, across three decks, with a total of 24 berths.

Are all cabins air-conditioned?

Yes, all eight, and every cabin has its own bathroom with hot water.

Which cabins have a private balcony?

Sandal and Aurea on the main deck and Azure on the upper deck have private balconies. Coral and Breeze share a balcony.

Which cabin has a bathtub?

Sandal on the main deck and Azure on the upper deck. Aurea has a private balcony with a jacuzzi.

Which cabin suits a family of four?

Aurea on the main deck (two queens, USD 470 per person) or Tide on the lower deck (a double plus two singles and two bathrooms, USD 430 per person).

Which is the best value cabin?

Lagoon 1 and Lagoon 2 at USD 400 per person. They are lower-deck doubles with porthole views rather than windows.

What size are the beds?

Queens are 160×200 cm, the king in Sandal is 180×200 cm, and singles are 90×200 cm except Coral’s single at 140×200 cm.

Do lower-deck cabins get stuffy?

They are air-conditioned like the rest, and the second 31.3 kVA generator means the air conditioning keeps running overnight at anchor. What they lack is a view – portholes rather than windows.

Is there a cabin for solo travellers?

Solo occupancy is quoted case by case, because rates are published per person within a fixed cabin capacity. Ask the reservations desk for a written figure.

Where are the quietest cabins?

Upper deck, furthest from the engine. Azure and Coral are the usual answers for light sleepers.

The boat and safety

How big is Naturalia?

33.45 metres overall, 6 metres in the beam, 161 gross tonnes, across three decks.

What type of boat is it?

A hand-built wooden traditional phinisi from Bulukumba in South Sulawesi.

When was it built?

The operator states it was built in 2025 and entered service in 2026. Treat that as operator-stated rather than a registry record.

What engine does it have?

A single Mitsubishi 6D22 producing 200 HP at 2,200 RPM.

How fast does it go?

Seven to nine knots cruising, which is a working phinisi speed rather than a motor-yacht speed.

What power does it carry?

A 31.3 kVA main generator plus a 31.3 kVA backup – a same-rating spare, which is uncommon in this segment.

How much fresh water is on board?

8,000 litres, which is what allows freshwater deck showers after each snorkel stop with 24 guests aboard.

How much fuel does it carry?

4,000 litres.

What safety equipment is carried?

A life raft, life buoys, life vests for every guest, and a fibreglass tender used for beach landings and transfers.

Is there mobile signal on board?

Coverage is patchy and drops out entirely in parts of the park. Plan on being offline for stretches; the boat’s own communications are separate from guest mobile coverage.

Destinations and wildlife

Where do you see Komodo dragons?

On Komodo Island, usually from the Loh Liang trailhead, and on Rinca. Ranger escort is mandatory and cannot be waived. Padar has no dragons.

What time is sunrise at Padar?

Between 05:31 in November and 06:18 in July. Leave the boat about 65 minutes before sunrise to be in position with time to spare.

How long is the Padar climb?

About 20 to 30 minutes of stepped path to the classic viewpoint, with an optional 15 to 20 minutes more to the upper ridge.

Is Pink Beach really pink?

Pale pink at the wet tideline and cream higher up. The colour comes from red organ-pipe coral fragments and reads strongest in mid-morning light.

Can you always land on Taka Makassar?

No. It is a tidal sandbar that can be reduced or submerged at high water, so it is swapped out when the tide does not work.

What is Kalong Island?

A mangrove islet where a large flying-fox colony roosts by day and streams out at dusk. Boats watch from anchor; landing is neither possible nor appropriate.

What time do the Kalong bats leave?

From roughly 15 minutes before sunset and for 20 to 25 minutes after – between about 17:35 and 18:53 depending on the month.

How big is Komodo National Park?

Roughly 1,817 square kilometres of land and sea, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1991, with more than 1,000 reef fish species and more than 250 coral species recorded.

Are the reefs healthy?

Mixed, honestly. Sebayur and Siaba hold up well; Kanawa has healthy sections alongside visible bleaching scars and anchor damage. The park is spectacular and under real pressure at the same time.

Will we see turtles?

Very likely at Siaba Besar, which is the most reliable turtle site on the standard route, and regularly at Pink Beach and Kanawa.

Snorkelling and diving

Is snorkelling equipment included?

Yes, snorkelling equipment and life vests are included for every guest.

Can beginners snorkel here?

Yes. Siaba Besar, Pink Beach, Manjarite, Kanawa and the sheltered flank of Sebayur are all shallow, low-current sites suitable for first-timers.

Can you snorkel with mantas?

Yes, at Karang Makassar in 8 to 18 metres with a gentle to moderate drift. It is one of the few world-class manta sites that does not require a certification.

When is manta season?

Mantas are present year-round at Karang Makassar, with density peaking December to March when the water is richest in plankton.

Does Naturalia carry dive tanks?

No. It is a cruise and snorkelling vessel without an on-board compressor. Dive packages are arranged separately through the reservations desk.

Which are the advanced dive sites?

Castle Rock (4-30 m, very strong current, reef hook required, typically AOW plus 30-50 dives), Crystal Rock (5-35 m, strong) and Batu Bolong (5-35 m, constant current).

Which dive sites suit beginners?

Siaba Besar in 5-18 metres in a sheltered bay, Pink Beach in 5-20 metres, and Tatawa Besar for an easy first drift.

What is the water temperature?

26 to 29 degrees Celsius in the north and centre depending on the month, dropping to 21 to 25 degrees in the south during peak upwelling between June and September.

What is visibility like?

Typically 15 to 30 metres in the north and centre, and 10 to 20 metres in the south where upwelling brings colder, richer water.

How many dive sites are there in Komodo?

There is no official count. Specialist operators work with around 18 core sites, or 30 to 40 if variants are counted separately. Anyone quoting a precise number is guessing.

Season, weather and sea conditions

What is the best time to cruise Komodo?

April to June and September to November, when the water is calmest and visibility is best. Those are also shoulder-rate months.

Is July and August a good time?

Visibility is good but the open straits and the Padar approach get windy. It is peak season, so book three to six months ahead and consider a 4D3N for the buffer.

Should I avoid December to March?

Not necessarily. It is the monsoon with the roughest sea and the highest chance of itinerary changes, but it is also peak manta density. It is manta season, not simply low season.

Do trips get cancelled for weather?

Rarely once under way. The itinerary flexes instead – the captain reorders or substitutes stops. That flexibility is why a fourth day is worth more in windy months.

Will I get seasick?

Some people do on the exposed Padar and Manta Point legs, particularly July to August. The 161-tonne hull rides better than lighter day boats. Bring medication and take it before you feel unwell, not after.

Is the sea rough at night?

Overnight anchorages are chosen for shelter, which is why the boat repositions in the evening. The one long night leg, Kalong to Padar, is the exception.

Does the route change in the monsoon?

Yes. Crews favour anchorages sheltered from the west, may reverse the direction of the loop, and drop exposed tidal stops when swell and tide do not align.

When is the water clearest?

April to June and September to November, with 15 to 30 metres typical in the north and centre.

How hot is it?

Consistently hot and humid year-round at 8 degrees south, with strong sun on the deck and no shade on the Padar or Komodo trails. Reef-safe sunscreen and a hat are not optional.

Is there a rainy season risk to flights?

Labuan Bajo flights are more prone to delay in the December-March monsoon. Arrive the day before your departure rather than on the morning of it.

Getting there and logistics

Where does the cruise start?

Labuan Bajo harbour on Flores. Transfers from your Labuan Bajo hotel or from Komodo Airport (LBJ) on the mainland are included.

How do I get to Labuan Bajo?

By air to Komodo Airport (LBJ), served by Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Citilink and the Lion Air group. Frequencies change seasonally, so verify schedules before booking.

How long is the flight from Bali?

Roughly 1 to 1.5 hours non-stop from Denpasar.

How long is the flight from Jakarta?

Roughly 2 to 2.5 hours non-stop.

Should I arrive the day before?

Yes. A delayed Bali flight is the most common reason people miss a boarding, and the boat cannot wait.

Are airport transfers included?

Yes, within mainland Labuan Bajo – hotel or airport to the harbour and back.

What should I pack?

Trainers or trail shoes for Padar and the ranger trails, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, a light layer for the pre-dawn ridge, a head torch, seasickness medication and a dry bag.

Do I need cash?

Yes, in IDR, for park and ranger fees collected on site, crew gratuities and anything ashore. ATMs in Labuan Bajo are limited and there are none in the park.

Is there laundry on board?

No. Pack for the full duration.

Can I charge cameras and phones?

Yes. The boat runs a 31.3 kVA generator with a same-rating backup, so power is available at anchor as well as under way.

Food, drinks and life on board

Are meals included?

Yes, all meals are included and cooked on board, along with mineral water, coffee and tea.

Where are meals served?

On the Panoramic Dining Deck when the weather allows, or in the air-conditioned indoor Dining Lounge when it does not.

Can you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes – halal, vegetarian, allergy and other requirements are handled if you state them at booking rather than on embarkation day.

Is alcohol included?

No. Alcoholic drinks and beverages outside the standard list are excluded from the fare. There is a mini bar in the indoor lounge.

Can I bring my own drinks?

Raise it with the reservations desk when you book rather than assuming. Corkage and storage arrangements are agreed in advance.

What is there to do between stops?

Three separate spaces: the open Serenity Deck for sun and stargazing, the Panoramic Dining Deck, and the air-conditioned indoor lounge with mini bar and karaoke.

Is photography included?

Yes. Trip documentation with drone, GoPro and mirrorless is part of the fare, which for most guests is the most-used inclusion on the list.

Can we swim from the boat at night?

When the crew judges conditions safe, usually in a sheltered bay such as Siaba. It is at the captain’s discretion and never automatic.

Is the boat suitable for children?

Yes, with the caveat that the Padar pre-dawn start and the ranger treks suit older children better. Aurea and Tide each take four, which works well for families.

Is there stargazing?

The strait has very little light pollution and the Milky Way is visible on clear nights, most reliably between about April and September.

How do I book?

What deposit is required?

Fifty per cent to confirm the dates.

When is the balance due?

Thirty days before departure. Bookings made inside 30 days are settled in full at confirmation.

Is the deposit refundable?

No. It is non-refundable on cancellation, which is standard when a vessel is taken off open sale for your dates.

Should I buy travel insurance?

Yes, covering trip cancellation and medical evacuation. The park is remote and the deposit is non-refundable.

How far ahead should I book?

Three to six months for July and August, six to ten weeks for April-June and September-November, and three to six weeks for December-March.

Can I hold a date without paying?

Provisional options are sometimes held briefly while you confirm flights, but a date is only secure once the deposit clears.

What currency do I pay in?

Cabin and charter rates are published in USD, with IDR equivalents on the Indonesian listings. Park and ranger fees are always paid in IDR.

Vessel dimensions, cabin layout, engine and generator data, charter tiers and cabin rates on this page are the figures published by the operator, Komodo Luxury, on its Naturalia charter listing. National park tariffs are taken from PP No. 36 Tahun 2024 as socialised by Balai Taman Nasional Komodo. Sunrise and sunset times are computed for Padar Island (8°39′S, 119°35′E) in WITA (UTC+8) and are accurate to about three minutes. Sailing times between anchorages are operational ranges, not fixed schedules — they move with tide, wind and ranger queues, and we write them as ranges for that reason.
