Navigating Komodo’s Waters and Seasons
We traveled in July, which, while having some of the coldest sea temperatures, is also when the waters are most nutrient-rich – perfect for diving. April to August is generally considered the best time for diving in Komodo, and April to November is the dry season, so we hit a sweet spot. The visibility was incredible. When planning your Komodo sailors journey from Labuan Bajo, remember to factor in some local fees. We paid a harbour fee of IDR 25,000 per person for the entire trip, which is usually a one-time charge. For island visits, the Padar Island ranger fee is IDR 150,000 shared per group, and for Komodo or Rinca Island, it’s IDR 200,000 shared per group. These are good to know upfront so there are no surprises during your 3D2N phinisi liveaboard experience.
